This is how this month looks like for me:
06 Dec Bangkok-Kuala Lumpur-Jakarta
12 Dec Jakarta-Kuala Lumpur-Bangkok
13 Dec Bangkok-Singapore
16 Dec Singapore-Bangkok
17 Dec Bangkok-Manila
29 Dec Manila-Bangkok
And in between, a yearender story on regional politics and studying the Asean economic community on top of the regular load. But I'm loving it!!!
When the flight attendant brought it to me, I was surprised because the pendant was big! And it was very dark, bloody red compared to the one in the magazine.
Must be the sign of the change of guards from old... to young.
We stayed at The Gallery Hotel, a boutique hotel by the river, on Robertson Quay.
It's just a short walk from the "Pacita Abad" bridge and I was so happy when the cab turned the street and passed by it. The hotel itself is so artsy and trendy, though we didn''t stay in the boutique rooms.
The bathroom was enclosed in glass and the design was avant-garde. None of the stuffy, boring styles that most hotels have. I would have wanted to walk to Clark and Boat Quays but there simply was no time. Even walking to the nearby Pacita bridge had to happen in the morning I was checking out.
The much talked-about glass-bottom pool was not that impressive though, but the front desk staff were all very helpful and nice. There was avant-garde art everywhere, even in the tilted glass they use to serve fruit juices in the bar. And the best thing for a net addict like me, wifi 24/7. I can't understand why there are some hotels, including five-star, that do not offer this service. It's like cable, it's a must in today's life.
Like in previous trips to Singapore, there is always something to discover each time I visit. Though I still think it's like being in The Truman Show whenever you're on the island city.
What's so great about the "Great" Singapore Sale?
Or maybe I've just become a true blue recessionista.
I went to Uniqlo and Ikea all right, and did some shopping there (Uniqlo was so bloody far I just had to buy something for my efforts, and there was nothing I liked; the Uniqlo in Tokyo is still the best in terms of choices) and I walked up and down Orchard but ended up with nothing. And what sale are you talking about? It's still bloody expensive, compared to BKK prices. Thanks to globalization, most of the brands are in BKK except Uniqlo, GAP, Ikea and Forever21. I saw something I like in Forever21 but decided to go back for it the next day since the queue was long. But... I totally forgot. Nevermind, I'll live.
I love Ikea.
I won't get tired walking around the whole day.
There will always be new things to see everytime.
These were my haul when I went to Ikea in KL early this month.
The candelabra was from the first round while the candleholder and organiser were from the second round. Because sometimes it pays to take a second, third, closer look to appreciate the beauty and function of something.
I can't wait to check out Ikea in Singapore in June.
This was my fourth visit to China and my third to Beijing and yet, there are still a lot of things I haven't done or seen. More reasons for another visit and another... after all, China is a big, big, big country and its capital is a big, big, big city.
1. I went to finally watch a Chinese opera but it wasn't the 'face-changing' one that I wanted to see. I enjoyed the performance nevertheless, but I would still want to see the changing masks stunt.
2. I didn't have the time to see the Bird's Nest and Water Cube. I guess I did not have the will and could just have hopped on to a taxi... ONLY if I had the energy after a long day of work. BECAUSE I wasn't in BJ for a bloody junket. So BN and WC, you'd have to wait for me until my next visit.
BEIJING, I WILL BE BACK!!!
I had second thoughts packing my black wool coat thinking I might be overdressed when I get to Beijing. But I'm so glad I brought it along, otherwise, I would have frozen to my death. It was windy and cold, with temperature as low as two degrees C. And for my Southeast Asian blood, that is so bloody, bloody cold. So one week, I get that weather that made it so difficult to haul myself out of bed in the morning and then I return to muggy Bangkok with average 30 degrees C. Nice.
