I missed LH, my former Chinese colleague from Shanghai, so when SS from Beijing came to take over, I felt kind of aloof. I felt no connection between us unlike with LH that we'd go for massages or shop and have lunch on weekends together. I even said that SS and I simply do not have anything in common.
And then came The Call from Mr Manager for Yang Cheng Lin's interview and I had no choice but to pass the phone on to SS. I was scared at first not knowing how mainlanders take to Rainie and I wasn't sure if it would be OK for her to translate. I just had no choice that moment because it was last-minute.
I kept asking her on the way to the interview if it was really OK for her to translate and how she finds Rainie. She said she's OK with her. And she even said that Rainie is very famous especially among the young people in the mainland; young people, who she said, do not care about the "controversies" that got her into hot water with the "nationalists" before. Knowing that, I was somehow assured.
Then the interview happened.
And afterwards, I wasn't the only one dazed. On the way home, both of us said not a few times "she's so nice; her manager is nice" with matching dazed look. And came the confession, that she has turned into a fan of Rainie.
We started talking about other stuff until eventually we talked about Chou Jie Lun. And we found one more common ground. She's a big fan too.

There's Nino and his cards. There's Andy Lau who even performs magic in his concerts (Wah Jai, did you magic XiangLin to be invisible to the fans at your concert?). There's Jay and his magic that he even dressed up as a magician for his latest album.
And now even Shawn Yue is into magic?
Jay laughed at his good friend Shawn Yue for his kid-like attitude. Whenever (Shawn) learns new magic tricks he shows them off straight away even if he lacks the practise so instead many flaws show through.
I find the story cute, Jay squealing on his friend. I could just imagine Shawn excited over a new magic trick and ends up botching it.

Let's celebrate Taiwan's National Day today with Chou Jie Lun, one of its famous sons. This is the carrier single of his new album, Capricorn. It's called Fragrant Rice, it has all the imprints of a Jay Chou song. The album has 11 tracks (thanks Kaytee for the advance) and my early favourites aside from Fragrant Rice are Dream of the Red Mansion (#4), Nu Hi Yong (#2) and Leonardo Da Vinci's Canvas (#9).

Jay springs a surprise most of the time when it comes to releasing an album. There's no hype that precedes it, which is quite ironic because his album is always awaited by fans and critics (so they would have something to nitpick on obviously) alike. And now I just read he's releasing his new album, Capricorn, next month. Are you joking, Jay?
Meanwhile, Vietnam's deputy prime minister (one of those since it seems they have a lot of DPMs) was so funny when he gave his speech yesterday at the economic forum here in Hanoi. It was just before lunch and BB, in introducing him, said the DPM needs to deliver his speech already because he has to rush to another appointment. Some of the DPMs quotable quotes:
"Don't worry, after this you can eat."
"Investors always complain that our workers are not skilled. I told them, stop complaining! Just help!"
"We have managed to sustain our growth and we are confident to maintain it as long as we have political stability. And I hope that our political stability will be for the next 1,500 years (in short, forever. Ah, communists)."
"We are not so proud that the Vietnamese speak poor English... like me. (He speaks good English by the way)".
And I thought he understood my question in English at his KFD presscon because his reply (in Mandarin) answered it perfectly.
But today, I read the news quoting him that he couldn't understand a thing when he was interviewed by CNN.
Whatevah.
What's funny is how they're saying that it seemed the Chairman did not learn from his ex-girlfriends who are known to speak the language. Jolin was even an English major, dui bu dui?
Karaoke night was called off because the host is sick. Good thing because the sun is shining and my lame excuse that it's raining cats and dogs and therefore would be difficult to go across town would have sounded lame. But now, I'm going to use the botched KTV party as a lame excuse to post this picture of my OTP at the KTV. ChengLin sings but I don't think XiaoMei would dare to so he probably just sits there listening to everyone sing.
